The techniques Oil States applies in building Submarine Systems are very similar to those we use to produce a number of commercial products. An example of these products is the Hydro Pad which Oil States manufactures for use as a compliant clamp (clamp force as high as 550,000 lbs.). These clamps are used to provide a compliant connection between a notch in the rear of a sea going barge and the tugboat that drives it. The environment and forces to which they are subjected are among the most demanding encountered by Elastomer Products.
These devices are also used as load cells on an offshore platform located off Abu Dhabi. In that application, they operate at a continuous loading of 2,640,000 lbs. They are neoprene elastomer products that are reinforced with nylon fabric, as will be the critical pressure boundaries of applicable submarine components.
There are also a number of other commercial applications where Oil States uses the neoprene selected for this application under conditions where it is exposed to seawater. |
