For over twenty years, our CapStar subsidiary has been providing land drilling services in selected markets in the United States. Our fleet of nine semi-automatic land drilling rigs provide customers with a fit-for-purpose alternative to the traditional box rigs. Our rigs are well-suited for development drilling where overall efficiency of the rig from spud to spud is essential. Our rigs are generally capable of drilling vertical, directional and horizontal wells up to 12,000 feet in total measurable depth. With over twenty years of operating history, we have extensive knowledge of our current geographic areas - the Rocky Mountain region.
Our rigs provide a unique rig design that benefits customers with lower total drilling costs. They are highly mobile with a small footprint and a small crew complement, usually three to four crew members. Our rigs are also more efficient when moving between wells, requiring as few as eleven truck loads for highway moves. Our rigs move in a matter of hours rather than the days needed to move some larger, more traditional drilling rigs. These operational efficiencies accrue to the customer through lower overall drilling costs. In addition to operational efficiencies, our rig design provides some safety enhancements. We do not have a derrick man or rotary or spinning chains, and our pipe boom minimizes the pipe handling done by field personnel.

Through our CapStar Drilling brand names, we provide drilling services throughout the Rockies. We currently have nine rigs based in our Casper, Wyoming facility. In the past, we have drilled wells in West Texas, the Barnett Shale in Texas as well as in New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky.
CapStar Drilling provides semi-automatic hydraulic drilling rigs for land drilling services in the Rocky Mountain region. Our rigs are capable of drilling to depths of 2,000 to 12,000 feet, and are equipped with hydraulic handling booms with lift capacities from 200,000 to 300,000 pounds. CapStar rigs eliminate the need for a casing crew and require less deck space – factors that provide more efficient operation and greater safety.
